Dear MLK HS Community,
Starting August 5, 2024, we will be implementing a new Cell Phone Policy as part of our Disconnect to Reconnect initiative.
MLK HS Cell Phone Policy
- Cell Phones: Cell phones are to be stowed away in backpacks from 7:30 - 3:15 daily. At the 8:00 bell, teachers will remind students to stow away cell phones in backpacks. Thereafter, students who have their phones out will have their phones confiscated and turned into the school office where the phone will remain until 3:15. Repeated violations may result in a student being required to turn the phone into the school office before 8:00 daily.
- Earbuds/Headphones: Earbuds or headphones are only allowed when connected to a laptop computer for use while studying. To clarify, earbuds or headphones are not allowed while walking around campus.
- Parent Communication: Parents who need to communicate with students during the school day should contact the school office to deliver messages or email students using the student email address.
- Instructional Purposes: Even for approved instructional purposes, use of a personal electronic communication device such as a smartphone is optional; students will not be required to provide personal electronic communication devices and will be furnished with a device or an alternative means to conduct the activity.
Parents/guardians are asked to refrain from calling, emailing, or texting their student during instructional time. In the event of an emergency, the parent/guardian may contact the student via the school’s phone system.
The school is not responsible for personal electronic devices on school property or at school-sponsored events. Electronic devices may be confiscated by the school administrator or designee for unapproved use on school property or at school-sponsored events.
Let's ensure that we are all on the same page and enforce these guidelines consistently to make our Disconnect to Reconnect initiative a success.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Mr. Michael Alexander
